Late Night Vehicle Fire

Thursday, July 2, 2015

On April 3rd at 22:08, the Dover Fire Department was dispatched for a Ladder company to assist the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company with a commercial vehicle fire. Crews from Camden arrived to find a dump truck, which was converted into a makeshift box truck with the contents stored inside on fire. The truck was believed to be carrying supplies that were going to be shipped to Haiti. Due to the design of the makeshift box truck and the contents packed inside, it made it very difficult for crews to make access and extinguish the fire. Command (41-20) made the decision to request Ladder 2 in an attempt to extinguish the fire from above. After extensive overhaul, including the use of a gradall from DelDot, the fire was put out. Great team work by both departments and the other agencies on the scene.
