Lightning Strike

Thursday, July 2, 2015

On August 01, 2013 at 1324 hrs., the Dover Fire Department was dispatched to investigate a possible lightning strike at 741 Oak Drive. E3, under the direction of Asst Chief Reeder, was first on scene to find a single-story, single-family residence with damage to two “A” side windows. Crews also noted a large tree in the front yard with damage. Residents relate to hearing a large bang during the thunderstorm and heard glass break. Several circuit breakers tripped in the house. Crews investigated the interior and found no apparent electrical damage. Two exterior windows were damaged from flying tree debris. One civilian squirrel fatality was recorded. Apparently, the squirrel had been in the tree that was struck by lightning. Good evidence why you should not stand under or around a tree during a thunder storm.
