MVC with Entrapment - SR-1

On April 19, 2013 at 1404, the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with one subject trapped on SR-1 at mile marker 58, north bound. A BLS unit had previously been on scene and requested a fire department response to remove the driver’s side door. E4, under the direction of Asst Chief D. Carey, was first on scene to find a single vehicle on the shoulder of the road with damage along the driver’s side. The vehicle had come in contact with a DelDot truck performing highway maintenance. E4’s crew stabilized the vehicle and began removing the driver’s door. R1 arrived on scene and secured the vehicles battery and assisted with extrication. E2 arrived on scene and completed the shutdown of the north bound lanes of SR-1. The door was removed and the patient was transferred to a spine board for transport to the local Trauma Center. In total, two patients were transported. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police for further investigation.
