DFD Says Farewell to Herb Abbott - Dover

The DFD said our final farewells to Life Member Herbert Earl Abbott, Sr. He was in the Department for 75 years. He was born on December 01, 1916 in Dover, DE. He joined our Department in July 1937. He served as secretary and on a number of committees, two of which were The 300th Anniversary of Volunteer Fire Service in the United States and Refurbishing of Engine 8. Mr. Abbott was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1937. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1978, after 30 years, and was employed by Trader Funeral Home for many years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army, achieving the rank of MSgt, and then went on to serve in the National Guard. He was a member of the Walter L. Fox Post #2/American Legion-Dover; a life member of First Baptist Church Dover, serving on the Board of Trustees, various committees, in the Senior Choir and currently was the oldest member of FBC; and a member of the Modern Maturity Dover. Herb will be dearly missed at the “Liar’s Table” in the mornings. Rest easy Mr. Abbott.
