Downed Aircraft - Dover

Thursday, July 2, 2015

On January 13, 2013, at 1910, the Little Creek VFC was notified by the Dover AFB tower of a possible downed plane in their fire district. Several crews from surrounding departments were dispatched to assist in the search, including the DFD. Extreme dense fog, thick woods and austere conditions hampered the crew’s efforts to locate the aircraft. After several hours, the wreckage was located in a wooded area in the DFD fire district, just off White Oak Rd, east of SR-1. Chief West then assumed Command and reduced the assignment to Dover FD and Little Creek VFC units. Unfortunately, the pilot perished in the crash. The scene was turned over to the FAA and Medical Examiner. Units remained on scene for several hours providing support. Dover Units on Scene: Car-1: Chief West Car 2: Capt.
