Serious MVC with Subject Trapped - Bay Road

Thursday, July 2, 2015

On November 03, 2012, at 2320, the Dover Fire Department was dispatched to a reported serious MVC with subjects trapped and vehicles on fire in the north bound lanes of Bay Rd by the runway approach lights. Deputy Chief West responded directly to the scene and found a head on collision with extensive damage. Both vehicles were on fire and one subject was still heavily entrapped. BLS A-63 had arrived moments earlier and had pulled two occupants to safety from their burning vehicle. One of the subjects was in cardiac arrest and the other was a priority 1 pediatric patient. E4 was the first engine on scene. The fire was quickly extinguished. Unfortunately, the subject heavily entrapped in the vehicle perished on scene. E2 arrived on scene and assisted BLS with CPR and patient care of all subjects. R1 arrived on scene and lit the scene. E55-4 assisted in fire suppression and overhaul of the vehicles. The two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the local Trauma Center. Sadly, the driver was pronounced at the Emergency Department. No further information was available on the pediatric patient. The scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team. The Officers and men and women of the Dover Fire Department extend our condolences to all who lost family members in this tragic accident. We would also like to extend thanks to the Magnolia Fire Co and the many BLS and ALS units on scene for their help and support.
