Nursing Home Smoke Condition

Thursday, July 14, 2016

July 7th, 2015 just prior to 13:00hrs, Dover Fire Dispatcher Carrow received a call from an alarm company reporting a fire alarm activation from 1080 Silver Lake Blvd, The Silver Lake Center Nursing Home. With a crew already at Headquarters, Engine 4 made the response. While in route, a second call was received from the alarm company reporting a smoke detector activation from that facility. Engine 4 arrived on location to find a single story nursing home with an evacuation in progress. Engine 4 Officer ( C. Troubetaris) was approached by staff reporting an active fire in the building. With that being said, a general alarm was requested along with ALS, BLS, FM2 and FM3 to the scene. The crew from Engine 4 found the fire, which was coming from an outlet in a hallway extending up the wall. The Fire was extinguished and the area was checked for any additional extension. Crews from Ladder 1 and Engine 6 provided positive pressure to push remaining smoke from the building, as well as providing assistance with to both BLS and ALS with patient care. The scene was placed under control by Command (Deputy Chief Carey) and turned over to the City Fire Marshals Office. While crews operated at this incident, Engine 3 handled and additional incident in the district.
