Thursday, March 23, 2017

On March 21, 2017 at 2138, the Dover Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with a subject trapped on SR-1, just south of the Dover AFB main gate. Initial reports were of a single vehicle incident with a subject in possible cardiac arrest. Kent County Paramedics arrived on scene and confirmed the only occupant of the vehicle was unconscious, but breathing. E4, under the direction of Asst. Chief Michael O’Connor, was the first fire apparatus on scene, followed quickly by R1. Crews stabilized the vehicle and deployed the bumper line for safety. Crews removed the rear driver’s side door and “B” post and popped the driver’s door. Paramedics performed patient care during the extrication process. Once better access was obtained, the driver was transferred to a long spine board and removed from the vehicle. The subject was transported to the local trauma center for treatment. The scene was turned over to the DE State Police for investigation.
